Congrats Team Unique!

Olen niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin onnellinen Team Uniquen puolesta! Vihdoin ja viimein he saavuttivat MM-kultaa! Oikeastaan olin jo onnellinen pelkästään siitä, että he pääsivät ylipäätänsä mukaan kisoihin. Sanonpa vaan, että HSK:n muodostelmajoukkueilla ei ole koskaan ollut helppoa. He ovat aina olleet ikuisia altavastaajia ja syitä on yritettyä etsiä vaikka mistä. Toisinaan on tuntunut jo siltä, että kotimaan tuomarit ovat tarkoituksella halunneet jättää HSK:n joukkueita varjoon. HL:n ja HTK:n joukkueet ovat saanet luotua niin vahvat imagot, että heidän ohittaminen on ollut vaikeaa. Olen siis itse ex-HSK:lainen ja luistellut myös muodostelmissa, joten tiedän mistä puhun. Jotenkin tuntui että HSK:n luistelijat saivat tehdä kaksin verroin töitä ja täytyykin ihailla niitä kaikkia, myös vanhempia ja muita taustajoukkoja, jotka ovat vuosia jaksaneet tsempata ja pitää uskoa yllä, vaikka välillä tilanne on tuntunut turhauttavalta. Toivottavasti käänne parempaan on nyt tapahtunut ja HSK:n muodostelmajoukkueilla alkaa uusi, menestyksekäs aikakausi!

I'm so happy for Team Unique! Finally they achieved the gold medal! I can tell you little bit of history of this team. In Helsinki there are three great clubs which all have great teams. For some reason the club that Team Unique presents (HSK) has always been an underdog. All of the HSK's teams have always had to really prove themselves to the judges in order to success. Many times the HSK teams have been the bronze medalists in our national competitions and that's why they rarely have had chances to participate in World Championships. This situation has been hard for the club and especially the skaters and as a somebody who used to be a part of this club, too I can tell it was not easy.  I am so happy for Team Unique and also the whole club that after years of hard work and struggle, they never gave up the hope - and the result is the World Championship Gold! :)

Hopea meni niukalla erolla Kanadaan. Pidin paljon Nexxicen ohjelmasta ja heidän pehmeästä luistelutyylistään. Kaikki liikkeet olivat loppuun asti viimeisteltyjä ja rauhallisia, ohjelma oli hieno kokonaisuus. Ei ihme, että he saivatkin parhaat komponenttipisteet. Heidän ainoa miesluisteljansa sopi hyvin joukkoon, hänhän lähes upposi sinne. Myös loppuhuipentumana tuon miesluistelijan nosto ylös oli aikas hauska! :) Teknisesti Nexxicen ohjelma ei ollut niin vaativa kuin muilla ja siihen heidän voittonsa kaatuikin tänä vuonna.

The silver went to Canada. I really liked Nexxice's program and their smooth skating. Every movement was done in perfection and style. As a whole the program was great and they definitely deserved the best PCS. Their only male skater fit in very well and it was fun how they lifed him to the air as the ending pose :) Technically they didn't have the most difficult levels and that costed the victory this year.

Kolmanneksi tuli USA:n Haydenettes. Heilläkin oli hyvä ohjelma ja erityisesti tuo komponenttipuoli hallussa. Pirteä ohjelma sujui virheettä ja he saivat nyt neljättä kertaa peräkkäin pronssia.

The third team was Haydenettes from USA. They had great PCS and a latin themed fun program. They got bronze for a fourth time in a row now.  

Neljäs, Suomen Marigold Ice Unity, oli valinnut mielestäni aika perinteisen ohjelman. Toivoisin näkeväni jotain uudenlaista myös heiltä ja varsinkin tuohon komponenttipuoleen kannattaisi panostaa, sillä teknisesti he ovat jo todella hyviä. Pohjois-Amerikan joukkueiden skating skillsit ovat kuitenkin menneet heidän ohitseen, toivoisin näkeväni yhtä pehmeää menoa myös suomalaisilta.

Marigold Ice Unity was fourth. They are probably disappointed because the medal is always a realistic goal for them. They had quite a traditional program, I wish they would try something new. They are also very strong technically but seem to lack component skills. The two North American teams have passed them especially in skating skills. I wish they were smoother!

Venäjän joukkue oli viides ja vapaaohjelmana heillä oli Johnny Weirin I love I hate You -musiikki :D Heillä näyttää olevan paljon vahvan yksinluistelutaustan omaavia luistelijoita ja varsinkin alun axelit olivat todella hienot! Oikeastaan koko heidän vapaaohjelmansa alku oli hyvin erilainen kuin muilla, yhdistelmä jäätanssia ja yksinluistelua melkein. Pidän siitä, että yksilöliikkeittä kuten hyppyjä ja piruetteja voi tehdä nyt myös muodostelmassa, sillä minusta tämä lajin pitää myös mennä eteenpäin ja joskus tuntuu, että se kehittyy niin hitaasti. Monet ohjelmat näyttävät nykyisin yhä lähes samoilta kuin kymmenen vuotta sitten. 

Team Russia was fifth and in their free program they used I love I hate you, Johnny Weir's old program music :D There are a lot skaters with strong individual skills in this team. I really liked their axels at the beginning,  wow! The beginning of their free program was almost like a combination of ice dance and figure skating, very unique. I like that it's now possible to do jumps and spins in synchro,too because it definitely makes this sport progress. Sometimes I think that the synchro should move forward faster because a lot of the programs look almost the same as ten years ago. Maybe we'll see more of these kinds of moves in the future, I hope.

Team Surprisen Beyoncé-teemainen ohjelma oli myös aika hauska hiusten heiluttamisineen! Harmi vain, että TV selostaja alkoi lukemaan muodostelman sääntöjä koko heidän ohjelmansa ajan, joten musiikki jäi vähän taustalle. Heillä on tosi upea vauhti ja monia juttuja tehdään vähän riskillä. Elementteihin tullessa ei varmistella eikä jarrutella! Välillä tuo heidän ohjelmansa meni liiankin huolimattomaksi ja viimeistelemättömyys sekä pienet virheet eivät saaneet sitä aivan loistamaan. Joka tapauksessa pidän aina Team Surprisen ohjelmista, niissä on kekseliäisyyttä ja viihdyttävyyttä!

I also liked Team Surpise's Beyoncé themed program with all the trade mark hair flipping! They have an amazing speed and they don't hold back! Lots of risky elements, for example the first lift! Sometimes it started to look even too unpolished, a bit messy and there was some little mistakes, too. Over all Team Surprise is always an interesting team who's entertaining programs I always look forward to!
